Congratulations! You’ve completed the second phase of data modeling methodology by identifying and modeling relationships.
Let’s recap the steps we took.
First, we identified relationships that can exist between entities: One-to-one, One-to-many, and many-to-many.
Next, we covered embedding and referencing relationships with MongoDB.
When deciding whether to reference or embed, always remember the golden rule: “data that is accessed together should be stored together”.
We also introduced you to a robust set of guidelines that will help you decide between embedding and referencing.
Then, we examined options for embedding and referencing through examples for each relationship type in the bookstore app.
Understanding relationships between entities is a crucial skill for modeling in any database. Now you are well equipped to produce basic data models.
We are ready to move on to the third and final stage of our data modeling methodology, applying schema design patterns.
See you in the next phase!
